Frantz BioMarkers, LLC A Cleveland Clinic Equity Partner
The Goal: develop and commercialize molecular diagnostics Frantz BioMarkers, LLC (FBL) seeks to build on the current revolution in Molecular Diagnostics by discovering and commercializing novel indicators of biological states – biomarkers – in circulating blood and other biological fluids. Such biomarkers would allow for rapid, non-invasive detection of otherwise invisible diseases, replacing existing diagnostic methods that are painful and expensive. They could also be used to monitor the efficacy of therapeutic regimens, allowing for quick selection of appropriate life-saving therapies. The FBL Strategy: accelerating and enabling the best investigators Academia is a rich environment for basic biological research, but great investigators need industrial partners to translate their work into a commercial product. Proof of principle occurs in the research lab, but product generation requires high-throughput work and a commercial investment.
FBL identifies investigators at flagship institutions who are poised for the next step of biomarker development. We support their projects and provide the necessary infrastructure for sample collection, storage, fractionation, and molecular analysis using FBL's state-of-the-art mass spectrometry equipment and rapid, automated clinical assays. FBL also forms strategic alliances with innovative companies that are building better instruments and software to enhance biomarker identification. FBL's primary facilities are located on the campus of The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
